Hello friends, today we are looking at the Yamaha R15 V5 – the next big update in the R15 family that promises sharper styling, better performance, and more technology. Yamaha has packed this version with upgrades that make it appealing for sport-bike lovers who want both looks and function.
Engine & Performance
The R15 V5 still carries a 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). It makes about 18.4 PS power at ~10,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm torque at ~7,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with Assist & Slipper Clutch to help smoother shifts especially when downshifting. Traction Control (TCS) and an optional Quick Shifter are available on higher variants for a more thrilling ride.
Design & Build
Yamaha has given the R15 V5 a sharper, more aggressive look inspired by its bigger R-series bikes. It features a sculpted fuel tank with strong knee grip, full fairing with aerodynamic styling, bi-functional LED projector headlamp with DRLs, and striking new colour options like Racing Blue, Metallic Red, Dark Knight etc. The frame is DeltaBox with upside-down front forks and a linked-type mono-shock rear setup for better stability and handling.
Features & Tech
On the tech front, the R15 V5 gets a full LED lighting setup (headlights, tail, indicators), a fully digital instrument cluster, side-stand engine cut-off, and connectivity features such as Yamaha’s Y-Connect app for alerts, ride history, maintenance reminders etc. High spec variants include features like TCS, quick shifter and dual-channel ABS.
Mileage, Tank & Practicality
Even though it’s performance-oriented, the R15 V5 offers decent fuel efficiency – about 45-50 kmpl under mixed riding conditions according to claims. The fuel tank holds ~ 11 litres, giving good riding range for both daily use and weekend runs. The seat height is approx 815 mm and kerb weight around 141-142 kg, which is manageable in its sport class.
Price & Variants
The ex-showroom price for the R15 V5 starts around ₹1.80-₹1.95 lakh, with higher variants (with extra tech like quick shifter, TCS etc.) going up a little more. Some special editions may go slightly above that range. Yamaha dealerships in major cities are expected to start deliveries soon.
Conclusion
Yamaha R15 V5 looks like a strong evolution over the previous versions. If you want a sport bike with aggressive styling, solid performance, and modern tech at a premium yet reasonable price, the R15 V5 could be the bike you are waiting for. Especially suited for young riders, enthusiasts, or anyone who wants a sporty bike that can also be used daily.
